Mooring a boat with us gives you the best of both worlds – the peace and quiet of the marina with the thriving city of Liverpool on your doorstep. The world famous Albert Dock, shopping at Liverpool One and the Liverpool Echo Arena and conference centre are all within a short walk.

Boat moorings comprise 350 berths on floating timber pontoons across two docks. We offer both serviced and unserviced berths, with different locations and aspects to choose from. As well as an increasing number of power boat owners – many of whom use their boat as a weekend pied a terre – Liverpool Marina is very popular with racing skippers due to the year round race programme offered by Liverpool Yacht Club.

Alongside motor and yacht mooring, you will find Canal boat moorings. There is a high demand for these narrow boat moorings so we have plans in development to offer 50 new berths. Sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of this page to be kept informed of this and other developments and events at the marina.

In the meantime Liverpool Marina’s narrowboat moorings already form their own community, you can read more about these types of boat moorings here.

The River Mersey is well buoyed, but care must be taken as it is a busy commercial port. Contact Mersey Radio on VHF Channel 12 upon entering the river for up-to-date information about traffic movements and navigational hazards.

Admiralty chart N0 3490 ‘Port of Liverpool’ is recommended.
The entrance to Liverpool Marina is via the Brunswick Lock, located one nautical mile south from the recognisable Liver Buildings.

From seaward follow the buoyed Garston channel until abeam of the Pluckington Bank Cardinal buoy marked PB. The Tranmere oil terminal will be to starboard. The lock entrance is to port on an approximate transit between these two points; identified by the usual three red/green docking signals.

The lock sill is 4.5m above chart datum and the lock is operated when there is atleast 2m of water over it, eg. 6.5m or more of water above datum. It is the responsibility of the skipper to ensure that you have enough water under the keel before using the entrance – particularly on a falling tide.

Download the marina hand book for more information.

Locks that fall between 0500hrs and 2200hrs are routinely manned. Outside of these hours please book in advance by calling 0151 707 6777.*

Pay attention to the Brunswick Lock procedures. Locking to and from the River Mersey:

1. Contact the lock keeper on CH37 on approach; call sign ‘Liverpool Marina’

2.Enter the lock only when it is clear to do so, under lock keepers instruction or when the docking signals show green

3. Ensure your vessel is tied up securely whilst the levels equalise

4. Depart the lock only when clear to do so

5. Remember on approach and departure to check the depth signs to ensure you have enough water over the sill.

Lock dimensions: Gate 8 metres wide. 30 metres long. On arrival a member of staff will assign you a berth.

*fees payable

Staying safe is common sense.

Take extra care on the pontoons at night and in poor weather; wear appropriate footwear and remember that running is prohibited. Young children, non-swimmers and vulnerable persons should wear life jackets when on the pontoons and should not be left unaccompanied.

Locate the nearest emergency access ladder to your berth. You will find fire and first aid points at the junction where walkways meet the pier. On arrival please note where you nearest point is. Should a fire occur raise he alarm by contacting the marina office, we will call the Fire Brigade if they haven’t already been called. Clear the area, especially those downwind of the fire, leave the area in an orderly manner. Gather at the muster point in the main car park.

We do not allow any hot work such as welding or grinding and swimming and diving are prohibited without written permission.

If you see any defective marina equipment please let us know.

All visiting vessels are required to supply a copy of their insurance certificate, demonstrating third party liability.

In the interest of the environment and the pleasure of everybody please help to keep the water and the surrounding area as clean as possible.

  • Only ever empty holding tanks by using the marina’s pump out service or take your used cassettes to the disposal point in Coburg Dock
  • Fuel spillages must be reported immediately so that they can be dealt with rapidly and effectively
  • Dogs are to be kept on a lead at all times whilst on the marina premises and please clean up any mess immediately
  • Use the yellow bins at the top of the gangways for general waste
  • Old batteries, glass and electrical items should be taken to recycling points

By following these guidelines the marina stays fit for everybody’s enjoyment. Thank you.
