Cruising & Power Boating

An increasing number of owners are choosing to berth their motor boat to Liverpool. Vessels become a weekend pied a terre to enjoy everything that the city has to offer.  When the mood takes them they enjoy a day out to Hilbre Island or North Wales; and slightly longer passages to Northern Ireland and Scotland are convenient.

Canoe Club

Liverpool Canoe Club is on site, with over 500 members they offer a family-friendly way to get into this fantastic sport. They offer activities in the dock and across the North West throughout the year and meet in the bar after their regular paddling sessions.

Canal Boat Basics

‘Canal boat’ is the term often used to refer to narrow boats and wide beam barges. However all narrowboats (actually a modern use of the two words!) are 6ft 10 inches wide.  They tend to be made of steel, though wood and GRP (glass reinforced plastic) are also found.  Wide beams are more than 6ft 10inches wide, with Dutch Barges being the name used to describe the widest of these vessels.

Style Of Boat

Canal boats can be any length but typically larger ones are 60-70ft. The stern (back of the boat) will vary in design to meet different needs.  A large external space at the back is good for recreational cruising and entertaining but reduces the available living space. A typical live aboard vessel will have less space at the rear to give more internal accommodation.

Live Aboard

A growing number of people in the UK are choosing an alternative lifestyle and living on a barge. For many it has become a serious option, plus the freedom of a boat allows you to move elsewhere then the move takes you.  We have a 64ft luxury barge available for viewing at the marina. It offers a sleek modern design and Jacuzzi bath.  Email mail@liverpoolmarina.com to arrange a viewing.
